My Story

Nursing AI Copilot, an app by BorderPlus designed to support nurses in their learning journey. As part of my internship at Stealth Design, this was another exciting project I had the opportunity to collaborate on with the team. My work focused on designing the app’s core learning experiences, including the Learn – Role Play journey for practicing real-world patient conversations, the Learn – Read Aloud flow for vocabulary and pronunciation practice, and the Home screen that brings these experiences together. I worked on structuring user flows, refining interactions, and creating intuitive UI experiences that made learning more engaging and accessible.

The Gap Between Classroom and Clinic

Nurses moving to Germany often pass their German classes but still struggle in real clinical situations. Lessons focus on grammar and textbook vocabulary, while the job demands fast, confident conversations with patients and colleagues. This gap leaves many nurses anxious and underprepared for their first weeks on a German ward.

Why a dolphin?

Dolphins are one of the few animals that learn to communicate by ear, they listen, imitate the sounds around them and keep practising with their pod. That's exactly how a nurse learns to speak German on the job, so the dolphin became our guide: a friendly, curious companion who learns with the nurse, not a teacher who tests them.

  • Used green to highlight correctly pronounced parts and orange to indicate areas to practise further.
  • Made feedback easy to scan, helping learners understand where to focus without overwhelming them.

Practise with confidence, with guidance always within reach.
  • Help nurses apply German in simulated clinical situations.
  • Introduced each scenario with clear context, objectives, and achievable communication tasks.
  • Added an expandable task chip that learners can open anytime to track their progress during the conversation.
  • Included Replay and Closed Captions (CC) controls so learners can repeat dialogues and read them when needed.

Actionable Feedback

Helping nurses improve beyond the conversation
  • Designed a post-session feedback experience to help nurses reflect on their performance.
  • Presented feedback after the conversation to maintain a natural, uninterrupted speaking experience.
  • Created a performance scoreboard evaluating care, communication, and cultural skills based on the clinical practices followed or missed during the interaction.

Key Takeaways from My Journey

Designing NursePlus: Nursing AI Copilot was a particularly valuable experience in my journey as a Product Designer. It taught me how to balance real user needs with business goals while designing meaningful language-learning experiences for nurses. Working within a focused two-week design sprint challenged me to think critically, make informed design decisions, and move quickly without losing sight of the user experience.

What made this project especially rewarding was the opportunity to collaborate closely with the developers and founding team, including Mayank Kumar and Ayush Mathur, while working alongside Anish Tripathi, Founder of Stealth Design. Being part of these conversations gave me a deeper understanding of how cross-functional collaboration, quick iterations, and shared ownership help transform design ideas into real products.
